The TEX.AT.WORK Project stems from the need of the Textile - Clothing - Distribution sector to further strengthen its competitiveness and to maintain the present employment levels. The project's aim is to support the whole Textile - Clothing - Distribution sector and the related transport sector to understand the benefits of the telematic tools and to foster their utilisation by developing: |
The specific objectives to be pursued in the introduction of targeted state-of-the art communication techniques are the following ones: |
- a new organisational model allowing the acquisition of advanced communication techniques
- a set of innovative applications to be tested in European companies involved in the project and successively to disseminate them in other companies of the sector
- to reduce the reaction time to the market demand changes, thus increasing the quality level of the service provided to customers
- to accelerate the flow of materials, both eliminating the non productive downtimes and also by making the transportation organisation more effective
- to tune the operations carried out by the various actors of the sector
Due to the special attention devoted to the actual companies' needs, the TEX.A.T.WORK Project has been funded by the European Union Commission (Directorate XIII, Telecommunications, information market and research enhancement) in the framework of the "Telematics Applications" programme. TEX.A.T.WORK is carried out by 15 partners and involves approx. 60 companies in Italy, Finland, France and Spain. ASTER (Emilia-Romagna Technological Development Agency) is responsible for the project. The philosophy of the project is that telematics is an essential resource allowing to: |
- implement the notion of "extended virtual company", enlarging the companies' information systems beyond traditional limits and allowing the various actors of the sector to be tuned in their work
- apply appropriate organisational techniques, such as Just in Time (aimed at reducing the stock level and its related costs as much as possible), Quick Response (whereby only what is actually required from the market is to be produced and made available where and when requested), or the Total Quality Management techniques, thanks to telematics' ability to allow for a data exchange in real time
The spreading of telematics together with such an organisational know-how is seen as essential key to guarantee the European industry's competitiveness in this sector. The dissemination of telematic applications means not only an immediate benefit in competitive terms but also a structural incentive to guide companies towards more effective organisational patterns. You can access two European Brochures about the project both in English and Italian on our site |
