A project funded under the European Union Urban and Rural Programme (Fourth Framework). The PDWEB project has been formed to build a Public Access Information System, including employment information, based on simple easy to use touch screen technology and multimedia techniques. There is enormous emphasis in the project on the importance of establishing the needs of all users and of validating those needs. Equally important is building an interface that enable all sections of society to benefit from the service. The primary objectives of the PDWEB project are: |
- To provide a simple to use, interconnected and multifaceted kiosk public information service for the population of Urban and Rural areas
- To reduce risk by utilising services, kiosks and methods which the consortium have used
- To provide one-stop points for as many job opportunities as possible from a variety of sources under one common platform
- To provide an information platform through which a multitude of other services e.g. Council and Government information, health, tourist and leisure can be provided to the public
- To define the user needs of such Information systems by survey in advance and validation of results against user statistics
- To examine the potential for commercial exploitation of touch screen kiosk systems and the integration of other potential information sources such as the Internet and Cable

The first demonstrator of the system became available in January 1997. Project partners include : |
