DEMETER. Distance education, multimedia teleservices and telework for farmers The general objective of DEMETER is to enhance the quality of life for farmers living in isolated, rural areas in Austria (various regions in Lower and Upper Austria), Finland (Lapland, North Carelia), Spain (Balearic Islands), United Kingdom (Scotland). Norway (Trondheim) is participating in course development only. DEMETER intends to build a practicable survival strategy applicable to other similar regions in Europe as well, using telematics applications as tool to implement better education, teleservices and telework. In many European countries traditional farming is becoming more and more difficult due to drastically changing economy. Farmers in all the regions have similar structural problems, like having difficulties to get individual education, information and consulting, or to market and sell their products and services. We strongly believe in better chances for people in isolated regions through modern technology, especially telematics application, which open the door to more people in the own region, the country and the world abroad. |
