| |
The
IRDSS project aims to unite marginalised
communities by linking their economies to more
central regions and to the Information Society.
This will be achieved by building telematic tools
to aid local communities move towards integration
with each other. A framework for the
decentralisation of work and distribution of
services and the necessary foundations for the
linking of geographically remote localities also
fall within the project objectives. The
project is aimed at two complimentary groups:
regional administrators and individuals, business
and community groups. Friendly kiosks in public
areas will allow access to the Geographic
Information System, GIS, the base on which the
whole project will be built. Onto this base will
be constructed a series of modules: spatial
development, business and tourism, socio-economic
profile and environmental information.
The
rewards of this project will affect business in
these remote communities by linking them more
solidly to their clients whilst local communities
can use the profile module for comparison with
other local communities. The remote areas could
be drawn into the development process and have
more control over the manner in which development
takes place. Finally, the project will allow
individuals to have the opportunity to improve
teleworking skills. The entire system will be a
sea of information moving from rural to urban
areas and visa versa.
According
to Wirral Borough Council, there will shortly be
an official project web site on which the
deliverables will be kept and further information
about progress revealed.
