ENCATA (telworking; business organisations)
A large consortium of pan-European regional development agencies, ENCATA aims to promote and assist the usage of telematics in their Regional Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs) by co-ordinating and networking their activities in a common, coherent and thus more effective way. The ten participating regions concerned are Shannon, Inverness, Glasgow, Toulouse, Athens, Prato, Belearic Islands, Hermansverk, Vaseras and Setubal.

FRIENDS
This project seeks to test prototype electronic information networks for better organisation of locally-based rural agricultural associations and cooperatives in Europe, and improved communication between them. Such networks are seen as the key to linking isolated bodies to information sources, as well as to a geographically extended base for provision of expertise and training. Participating regions (all in Greece) are Argos-Argolidas, Salonica, Pella, Patra-Achaias, Thiero-Evrou, Evia.

METASA
The METASA research consortium is working with citizens from all walks of life in four small towns to identify the best multimedia services for them in the Information Society. The project takes its lead from the requirements of these users rather than testing a technological blueprint on a preselected customers sample. Participating regions are Poitou-Charentes, La Rioja, Baden-Wurttemberg and Sachsen.

REGIONET
RegioNet is a pan European project aimed at promoting economic development and improving service provision in four regions of Europe through the creative use of information technology and telecommunications. In each of the four regions (these are in the UK - Warwick and Coventry; Germany - Leipzig; Greece - Athens, Patras and Ioannina; and Italy - Prato), RegioNet is bringing together a core set of organisations responsible, in the long-term, for the delivery of services to businesses and the community.

TELEPROMISE
(Telematics to Provide for Missing Services) in rural areas with the aim of providing rural citizens with access to a range of telematics-based services which currently involve them in a journey to facilities located elsewhere. The quality of life of rural citizens is improved while telematics reduces the need to travel. Three validation sites are involved: Provincie Drenthe in the Netherlands, Kjellerup Kommune in Denmark and Udaras na Gaeltachta/Aran Islands in Ireland.

TIERRAS
The aim of TIERRAS is to forge a permanent partnership from a group of European regional authorities firmly committed to experimental telematics services in their development policies. At its core is the integration, monitoring and validation of inter-related cross-sector teleservices for private citizens and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the regions concerned. The participating regions are Borgotaro, Modena, Newtown - Wales, Palma de Mallorca and Castres.

TELEREGIONS SUN (teleworking; business organisations)
TeleRegions Sun seeks to match investment in integrated telematics to development in six European regions on a methodological basis. The main focus will be on applications and services, advanced technologies, business process design and re-implementation, and information technology research and development. The regions will together identify cross-sector community needs, developing telematics-based approaches to them, and evaluate integration strategies and other aspects. Participating regions are Baden-Wurttemberg, Alsace, Catalunya, Lombardia, the North of England, Rhone-Alpes and Upper Austria.
