Project Description

RegioNet is a pan European project aimed at promoting economic development and improving service provision in four regions of Europe through the creative use of information technology and telecommunications.

In each of the four regions, RegioNet is bringing together a core set of organisations responsible, in the long term, for the delivery of services to businesses and the community. To these service providers RegioNet will contribute to the survey of user needs and provide the expertise and tools for the enhancement of existing services, the development of new services and the integration of services from different providers in the sub-region. The National Rural Enterprise Centre led the preparation of the successful bid for EC support and now manages the project which started on 1 January 1996.

RegioNet, in its current form, is a two year project. To have a long term impact, it must work with organisations who have the long term responsibility for the development and delivery of information and other services. Furthermore, it must employ technology that is available today and is in the hands of organisations with a long term commitment to support and development. RegioNet is about the innovative use of existing technologies to enhance the level of service provision for the benefit of the end users.

There are 34 partners in the RegioNet Project spread over 9 countries.
