Project Description
The overall Telework Europa (TWEURO) objective is to support the Telematics
Applications Programme (TAP) by providing electronic information and advice services for
both concertation and dissemination functions amongst TAP projects, and dissemination
functions to external audiences. Such support is designed to promote the implementation
and development of telematics widely throughout Europe. In addition to targeting TAP
projects, extensive efforts have been made to focus upon the commercial and especially,
though not exclusively, small business sector. This has been done by providing electronic
support and information services based initially on existing systems and services mainly
in a Compuserve environment. This was supplemented shortly afterwards by a fully developed
WWW and Internet platform.
TWEUROs support services consist of appropriately structured electronic media,
based upon experienced and careful human mediation, and targeted at three main user
groups: TAP projects themselves, TAP projects validation sites, and the external
users of these sites as well as potential users of telematic tools more generally. The aim
is to rectify the current situation in which these groups are often faced with a surfeit
of inappropriate, unstructured and unmediated information and advice, so that they often
find it difficult to implement telematics applications and thereby miss the benefits these
can bring.
At present TWEURO is offering the following services:
- both public and private mediated electronic fora
- human-mediated help-desk and advice services
- tools and software: provision and assistance with use
- collecting and mediated feedback on Commission services and programmes
- information as part of Tweuros first-stop-shop policy, including libraries and
newsletters
- training modules and both on-line and off-line support in telematics training
- a dedicated web-site for TURA (Telematics for Urban and Rural Areas) projects, providing
a first-stop-shop dissemination platform of information about the 35 TURA projects, plus
access to public deliverables
- a dedicated IADS (Integrated Applications for Digital sites) projects, providing
information on 12 large scale projects and 10 studies and a dedicated web-fora (chat)
service for these projects
- webcasting services to the European Commission and research projects: Tweuro pioneered
these services by webcasting the February 1998 TAP Conference and Exhibition in Barcelona,
since which many other events have been webcast including the February 1999 Conference
launching the 5th Framework Programme which took place in Essen, Germany.
Webcasting enables everybody with an ordinary Internet connection to receive real time
video and audio signals, including speakers overheads, and to send comments and
questions direct to the event.
