Webcasting (broadcasting over the Internet using the World-Wide-Web) is rapidly becoming a mainstream activity. The technology has improved sufficiently in recent months to make it a viable option for disseminating news and events. Unlike previous video display technologies the newer RealPlayer, VivoLive and Netshow systems allow the viewer to watch the video whilst it is being downloaded from the server. No need to wait for the whole clip to be saved to your hard disc before you start seeing what you are getting ! Live webcasting has taken the technology even further by allowing the viewer to watch and listen whilst the file is actually being uploaded to the server. There is actualy a ten to twelve second delay whilst the server sorts out the data streams and prepares a short storage buffer to keep everything running smoothly. |
