The Telework Europa (TWEURO) project is a cross-sector TAP support action using the expertise of experienced system operators from the Telework Europa forum on CompuServe to provide :
- electronic dissemination of information on the programme and projects
- telematic advice and training services for projects
- telematic tools for management, development and concertation amongst projects
- electronic dissemination to external, targetted audiences.
This is designed to encourage telematics practice widely in Europe. The eventual focus
will be upon the commercial sector, with emphasis on the small business sector, which is
often faced with a surfeit of inappropriate, unstructured and unmediated information and
advice.
Strategic goals
The primary objective is seen as the dissemination of information and advice to encourage
the use of telematic tools among projects. A secondary objective is encouraging the uptake
of applications developed within the Telematic Applications Programme. To achieve these
objectives the following strategic targets have been identified :
- Short-term (immediately) Discuss activities and actions with
other support projects and programme officials formulating a co-ordinated strategy. - Medium term (12 months) Develop, promote and provide
relevant, high quality services to projects through the existing
CompuServe forum and the utilisation of other appropriate
platforms, most importantly the WWW. - Medium/Long term (12 - 30 months) In co-operation with projects, extend, promote and provide relevant, quality telematic support services for evaluation sites, and assist in the wider dissemination of programme and project information.
- Long term (+ 36 months) Build on the services provided and
experiences gained within the programme to promote and facilitate adoption of telematic tools by commercial enterprises within Europe.
Current situation
Activities were initially to be focused on the Telework Europa forum on CompuServe. The
forum has been in operation for four years and has previously been used for announcements
and dissemination of the RACE and ACTS programmes, and for some information relating to
the ORA programme. Several multinational teams have used private sections within the forum
to put together proposals for telematics projects. A wealth of knowledge exists on the
forum with the Telework Europa libraries containing more than 1,000 telematics-related
files.
However, with the rapid expansion of the Internet, it became obvious that a duplicate
focus was needed on the WWW and the project has been busy in researching, developing and
implementing new technologies to facilitate this. A Web Forum section has been created to
encourage interactrive messaging, and structures to provide technical support and
information to people requiring help on the Telematics Application Program and other EU
initiatives.
